Who is Bunnicuts?

My name is Mélanie, I’m 29. I create works made from paper cut by hand with a scalpel, often with floral and animal themes, inspired by nature and fantasy.

I grew up in Nothern France before going to work in Paris for seven years. I missed the countryside and peace so I came back to my Homeland, near the fields and quiet life.

I have been cutting paper since 2013 and I have been challenging myself to improve my techniques, to test different kinds of scalpels and papers. I work all kinds of paper grammages, from the thickness of printer paper to paper close to that for watercolour (200gsm). These are techniques therefore self-taught, just like drawing. I have always loved manual works of patience, such as embroidery, cross stitch and sewing.

Creating and cutting allows me to escape and gives me serenity. With this surrounding countryside, inspiration never wavers, nature being so beautiful and enchanting.

I am a lover of nature, of the forest, of the sea, of the mountains, of the fields and of the fauna and the flora that compose it. I love fantasy worlds, fairy worlds. I grew up with Harry Potter, J.R.R Tolkien and other medieval-fantasy works.
I am also a travel lover, especially Japanese and Scottish culture. I try to include these passions in my works by giving small touches of each here and there.

The goal of my works is to bring wonder and joy. The joy of offering, the joy of acquiring, the joy of pleasing.

I am delighted to be able to share my passions, my work and my universe with you, hoping to amaze you.
